Framing since 1987
When framing a picture one thing you should consider is matting. They come in all colors, textures, patterns, thickness and quality. When a window for a mat is cut, the edge is cut on an angle to expose its core. This is done so that it doesn't cast a shadow. The most common mats are white core mats. There are also black core mats ,color core mats ,museum mats, suede and fabric. Whatever color you use, make sure it appears in the art work, unless its a black and white . Mats shouldn't "compete" with the picture and colors should only be used by the colors in the print. Mats also keep the glass from touching the print. There have been many times when someone brought in a frame to be taken apart and because they didn't use a mat the photograph stuck to the glass.
